Selwyn College Achieves an ‘Outstanding Scholar Award’ and
21 Scholarships in Total – an Outstanding Achievement!
Special Congratulations to Matthew Skelton‐Price – a Selwyn Superstar!
We have just received our Scholarship results for 2011. These are New Zealand’s most prestigious academic awards given to the very top academic students in the rigorous nationwide Scholarship examinations.
|
Last year’s Year 13 student Matthew Skelton-Price achieved an Outstanding Scholarship in Biology and Scholarship in five other subjects – Physics, Science, History, Geography and Classics. As a result, he is one of the top 51 students in the country to receive an Outstanding Scholar Award. This amazing achievement means that he receives $5,000 each year for three years to assist with his university fees!
We are extremely proud of Matt and regard him as a Selwyn Superstar! He attended Selwyn College since Year 9. In addition to his continuous and enthusiastic commitment to his learning, Matt involved himself fully in the wider life of the school – participating in the Stage Band and various school musicals, playing hockey and contributing to the work of the Academic and Environmental Councils.

A large number of our other Year 13 students also achieved Scholarships. This included Jack Barnard who achieved three awards (English, Drama and an Outstanding Scholarship in History). Jack is also to be congratulated on this exceptionally fine achievement! Also notable is the achievement of Ardit Hoxha who got an Outstanding Scholarship in Photography with a mark of 23 out of 24 making him part of a tiny elite of top photographers in the country!
Other students to enjoy Scholarship successes were Stephanie White in Painting and Classics, Quentin Burrell in Chemistry, Rafael Buck in History and Classics, Jamie Chow in Chemistry, Carmela Hughes in English and Media Studies, Ben Richards in Art Painting and Art Design and Natalie Wood in History.
Considering the size of our year 13 and the fact that there is a maximum number of Scholarship Awards in any one year, Selwyn College students have achieved extremely well. Hence, all of these students and their teachers deserve a huge round of applause!
3-Way Meetings Coming Up
As I have said before, research findings are conclusive about the positive impact of parents working with the school to support their student in their learning.
Hence, I strongly urge all parents to attend their nominated appointment (with their child and Mentor teacher) to confirm their goals for 2012.
Everyone has been posted an appointment time on the following days:
| Years 11, 12 & 13: |
Wednesday 22 Feb |
| Year 10: |
Tuesday 28 Feb |
| Year 9: |
Thursday 1 March |
It is not logistically possible to arrange alternative appointment times. However, if you are unable to attend the meeting, you can view your student’s goals and other information on their e‐portfolio on Selnet.
