The winning teamSelwyn Students Enjoy the Inspired Entrepreneur Experience Programme ‘Kaipakihi Ranga Wairua’
Over three days this week forty of our senior students participated in this business experience programme which proved to be an outstanding authentic learning opportunity. The students were divided into teams which each brainstormed a business idea, chose a leader and attended workshops run by expert outside facilitators to learn how to turn their idea into a viable business concept. The workshops covered the building blocks of successful business including leadership and teamwork, creativity and innovation, strategic planning, production, marketing, finances, SWOT analysis and presentation skills. On the final day the teams put together an expo style stand to promote their business idea to guest judges, aiming to be the team that won the award for entrepreneurial excellence. The winning team consisted of Sherrick Hulme, Jamie Chow, Dewy Sacayan — who was an outstanding CEO, Katrianna Lammas-Howell, Elizabeth Cokanasiga, Sheldon Hall, Raynal Kumar, Eulalie Turner, Aleksandar Anastasovski and each of them was presented with a fabulous medal in recognition of their success. Their business idea was ‘Kiwi In A Cup’ - natural kiwi juice in a labeled cup. All the other students received certificates and badges in recognition of their participation. The programme is sponsored by Maori Woman’s Development Incorporated and we thank the kaumatua Mr Pine Harrison and his team for providing our senior students with such a wonderful learning experience. If you are interested in enroling at Selwyn College for 2011, please contact the college to arrange an interview. A 2011 Prospectus with the enrolment material is available from reception.
