Junior Courses

In this full year course students learn to cope with a variety of routine situations when talking to Chinese speakers. Topics such as School, Travel, Shopping, Eating and Drinking and Festivals are explored.

Assessment: At the end of the course, students are assessed at Curriculum Levels 4 and 5.

Senior Courses

Level 1

Course Description: This course aims to develop students' social competence in Chinese. They will learn to express their own opinion and describe past and future events. Students will create a portfolio that contains examples of written and spoken work focused on areas of immediate relevance and interest. They will also prepare and present a speech in response to a given prompt.

Entry requirements:
Students need to have taken Year 10 Chinese or have equivalent prior knowledge of the language.

Level 2

Course Description: This course aims to develop students’ social competence in Chinese. They will learn to communicate information, ideas, and opinions through increasingly complex and varied texts. Students will be expected to identify linguistic and cultural forms that guide interpretation of texts.

Entry requirements: Students need to have taken Level 1 Chinese or have equivalent prior knowledge of the language. 

Level 3

Course Description: This course aims to develop students' communicative competence as well as cultural knowledge in Chinese.  They will learn to communicate information, ideas and opinions in complex and varied cultural contexts. Students will be expected to identify linguistic and cultural forms that guide interpretation of texts. The interactive skill and essay writing will improve greatly.

Entry requirements:
Students need to have taken Level 2 Chinese or have equivalent prior knowledge of language.
