Digital Technology - Hangarau Matihiko

Digital technologies have transformed our lives in recent years. Digital literacy has grown exponentially and digital devices have proliferated - personal computers, mobile phones, laptops and mobile wireless devices.  The new digital environment is changing the way New Zealanders live, work and play. It is transforming the way we do business, stimulating creativity and innovation across our economy and society. It presents immense economic, environmental and social opportunities for us all - but there are new challenges ahead.

Aim of the Course

At Senior Level, Digital Technology is offered as a medium to explore, design and develop digital media products such as graphic design, web design, animation and game development. 

Level 1

The course will involve technological practice to design and develop digital products such as a video game (Unity 2D or 3D), app development (programming) and a website (HTML). Digital technology offers students a medium to create interactive and creative projects using a wide variety of programs and methods. 

Level 2

The course will require students to identify an inquiry and to propose an outcome. Students will research, test and model their ideas developing a digital outcome that uses conventions appropriately. Students will present ideas using a combination of software programmes. The content of the projects will be based on handling and presenting data through outcomes such as web sites, animation, graphic design and game development.  

Level 3

The course will require students to identify a complex inquiry and to propose an outcome. Students will research, test and model their ideas, developing a digital outcome that considers user experience methodologies. Students will present ideas using a combination of software programmes. The content of the projects will be based on handling and presenting data through outcomes such as web sites, animation, graphic design and game development.
