Physics is the study of matter and energy, and the relationships between them, from the traditional fields of acoustics, optics, mechanics, thermodynamics, and electromagnetism, to the modern areas of study such as atomic and nuclear physics, quantum mechanics and astrophysics.Physics is a subject students love for its mixture of practical nature and the huge variety of problems students develop the skills to solve.
Physics is offered at NCEA Level 2 and NCEA Level 3.The Physics pathway enables students to understand the biggest questions of how our universe works, to conduct research in a physics context, and to understand the complex work of physicists.Students who complete these courses have the ability to head further into tertiary studies such as engineering, robotics, computer science, astronomy, and plenty more.
