Te Reo Māori



Junior Te Reo

This course encourages the use of Te Reo. It enhances students’ knowledge of verbs, nouns, adjectives and grammatical understanding. Topics include sports, food, jobs at home, meeting people and entertainment. Students taking this course may go on to study Te Reo at NCEA Level 1. 


Senior Te Reo

Level 1

Course Description: This course aims to develop students' communication skills in the language and further develop their understanding of the Māori Culture through language. It will cover listening (whakarongo), speaking (korero), reading (panui) and writing (tuhituhi).  

Entry requirements: Students must have taken Year 10 Te Reo Māori.

Level 2

Course Description: This course aims to strengthen communication skills in the language and to give students an opportunity to explore a range of topics that will expand and enrich their understanding of the Māori world. It will cover listening (whakarongo), speaking (korero), reading (panui) and writing (tuhituhi) and cultural understanding.

Entry requirements: At least 12 credits in Level 1 Te Reo Māori.

Level 3

Course Description: This course aims to develop competence in oral and written Māori and develop a greater respect for Te Ao Māori and Tikanga Māori. It will develop oral and aural skills, essay writing and comprehension.

Entry requirements: At least 12 credits in Level 2 Te Reo Māori.
