Selwyn College is delighted to
have been offered a place in 2009 on the Peer Sexuality Support Programme. The
programme is administered by Auckland Sexual Health Services and funded by the
Ministry of Health and its aim is to empower secondary school students to make
decisions in the area of their own sexuality and sexual health. Selected
students are trained to promote and provide a healthy sexual culture among
their peers in a training programme which commences with a four day residential
training hui. While this is presented from a bicultural perspective, it also
acknowledges the multicultural nature of New Zealand society. Peer Sexuality
Supporters are well supported in their work by the School Coordinator and the
Education Unit staff member who is allocated to the school. The School
Coordinator for 2009 is Michal Horton and the Education Unit staff member is
Kataraina Davis who attended Selwyn College.
