WELCOME TO
ECONOMICS
WHAT IS
ECONOMICS?
Economics examines how people make choices about the
use of limited resources to satisfy unlimited wants. Economics helps explain
and predict how goods and services will be produced and consumed.
WHY
IS ECONOMICS USEFUL?
Economics provides us with a toolkit to make informed
choices and better use of our scarce resources.
Economics students explore issues that directly impact
their lives, such as, whether to do homework or go to a movie, extract mineral
resources today or save them for the future.
New Zealanders are affected by the economic
decision-making of individuals, communities, businesses, and government
agencies in New Zealand and overseas. By studying economics, students make
sense of the New Zealand economy and its connections to the global economy.
