Selwyn College .::. Health Centre

There is a Registered Nurse in the school Health Centre every day to ensure that health issues that could interfere with student learning are addressed.   Her hours are :
    Monday/Tuesday/Thursday 9am to 2.30pm,
    Wednesday 8.30am to 2.30pm and
    Friday 9.30am to 2.30pm.
Students can self refer to see the Nurse during break times, but must get a permission slip from the class teacher if during teaching time.
Consultations with the Nurse are confidential unless risk is a major issue.

Smoking Cessation Programme - If you are ready to give up smoking see the school nurse who can start you on a Nicotine replacement treatment.

Asthma Nurse Educator - The nurse visits once a term from the Asthma Auckland and will see students with ASthma for review and education. See the School Nurse for an appointment.

Sexual Peer Support Team - Five senior students have been trained to help with Sexual health issues. See the Nurse for contacts.

Physiotherapy - A local Physio visits the Health Centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 12noon each week. He will see students for free using ACC funding. See the SChool Nurse for an appointment time.

Lumino Dental - Visit the school every year to see all students enrolled with them. Dental care in NZ is free to all students up to their 18th Birthday. Lumino Dental will be back at Selwyn College from 21 March 2011 to 17 April 2011. Enrollment forms can be got from the Health Centre. Any Dental problems please see the School Nurse for referral.

Sexual Health - Any issues see the School Nurse - Confidential. Referrals if needed.

HPV Immunisation - All Year 10, 11 and 12 girls have been offered the course of 3 injections. Last one due Wed 25 August 2010.

Vision Testing - All Year 10 students have a basic vision test by the School Nurse. Students who fail the test are referred to local Opticians who can offer a susbsidy for glasses.

ACC Provider - Accidents in school can be treated by the School Nurse - referral to local A+M - Free for Selwyn College students. Xrays have a charge.
