The curriculum for Year 9 students attending Selwyn College is based on the decisions in the NZ Curriculum. It is designed to promote a broad and balanced education, with an emphasis on the knowledge, skills, values and competencies necessary for academic success in the senior school and beyond. Year 9 students study courses in all of the eight Learning Areas identified in the NZ Curriculum:

  • Health & Physical Education
  • Science
  • Social Sciences
  • Technology
  • The Arts
  • Languages / Literacy

All of these courses develop in students the five Key Competencies identified in the NZ Curriculum which are needed for a lifetime of learning and success:
